We were approached by the owners of this private residence after they had purchased the plot. They were looking for someone who could deliver a design and build solution to their exact requirements. They were looking for a contemporary designed house that would take most of its-power from renewable energy sources. On-top of this they wanted the project delivered as a turn-key solution done quickly, including a mature finish to the garden design. Effectively they wanted to move into a house that was fully completed, without having to wait for planting to mature or furnishings and finishes to be procured.
We presented a concept scheme with a local, award-winning contemporary Architect. We were the only firm in the concept stage offering a complete design and build solution, including the planning process.
The advantage for the client was double edged, firstly we would procure the working drawings whilst we were in planning. Thereby saving a lot of time once planning had been done working up a full design to go to tender. Secondly, we could manage the costs process during the design phase. Contemporary houses can be deceptively expensive to construct, we were able to provide outline cost comparisons when looking at options in the building design phase, meaning the client could make informed decisions during the development of their design.
We were able to commence site works within two months of gaining planning permission, with the build budget for the shell and core element all agreed. A time saving of at least a year from traditional tendered contracts, with the comfort of knowing the structural element was costed and agreed.
The project went on to be a great success and the clients expectations “were-succeeded beyond expectation” on the finished article. This private residence remains a unique and land mark house in Surrey.
